The Club finally got the season underway following the less than helpful weather of late. First Club outing was our popular 2UP TT. A new course was trialled from Auchinstarry in Kilsyth to Twechar returning via Blackwood. A 6 mile loop that racers did two laps of. 23 teams of 2 riders competed for the overall, a mixed category and prizes for top 3 guests. The mixed category was hotly contested with only 12 seconds separating the top 3 contenders. Winners were Lindsay Branston and Sandy Gibbons in a time of 34:34mins.
We had guests from Falkirk BC, GJS Racing, Lenzie Velo, GGCC and Arria Wheelers. Winners on the night were Wullie Turner (GJS Racing) and Grant Johnstone (FBC) in a time of 32:35min. The overall winners were Philip & Josh a formidable family duo who were the only team to break 30 minutes for the 12 miles in 29:52mins an average speed of 24mph in testing conditions over a tough technical course. 2nd place was David Hodson and Enda Williamson in a time of 30:16. 3rd podium spot was taken by Rory and Alistair in 30:47.
Big thanks to all who took part and helped out, and to Twechar Club for hosting the prize giving afterwards where a few beers were enjoyed in fine company. Next up is our new 1 mile Sprint TT, an innovative addition to our calendar, a counter toward the Club Championship and one for the big units. 😉
